Sea Moss for Skin

Sea Moss has become more popular over the years for its incredible benefits in revitalising skin, hair & nails.

Even though ancestrally Seamoss has always been around to give the people of the Caribbean the glow they carry in their skin, its only in recent years that the West has caught up with the hype. I mean it's becoming so reputable now, an article in Instyle Magazine called Sea moss gel a skincare powerhouse that has been scientifically hailed by several skin doctors. You also regularly see celebrities like Kim Kardashian promoting Sea moss and its benefits openly.

The powerful nutrients and minerals within Sea Moss such as Collagen, Vitamin C , Vitamin E and high content of sulfur, are all necessary elements for healthy skin.

There is no lack of bovine and marine collagen in the market promoting great benefits for skin, hair, nails and bone health however it isn't as easy to find a trustworthy, plant based/ vegan source of collagen as it is bovine & marine. Lucky for those of us that know about the benefits of Sea moss, it is the perfect source. Not only can you consume it internally daily to benefit from all that It has to offer from within, it is also great to use externally as a facemask, as well as in the bath.

Collagen levels naturally decline from around 30 years old onwards.

When essential nutrients such as collagen, Vitamin C and Vitamin E found in Seamoss are taken consistently, this plays a key role in our cellular replenish and renewal process.

A lot of people struggle with Eczema, Psoriasis and other skin inflammations, and the number of people with these struggles seem to just keep growing. Especially in the Western world - the environment we live in, the foods we eat and the lack of sufficient Vitamin D, all play a role in creating inflammation in the skin.

Sea moss can also be useful to people who suffer from acne or oily skin. "Due to a high sulfur content, sea moss has antibacterial, antiviral, and antimicrobial functions, and it is therefore believed to help with balancing the skin microbiome," says Dr Karen Hammerman, a dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group. "The high sulfur content can also decrease the excessive sebum production in the skin. Together with the antibacterial effect on P. Acnes bacteria [which causes acne], it may help reduce the severity of acne in people who suffer from this condition."

And then there is the big question of skin ageing..

Everyone will experience skin ageing differently. Continual UV exposure will definitely hasten each step of skin agin and lead to a long-term accumulation of damage.

Its is becoming more and more apparent that we need to supplement with superfoods to support the lack created within our bodies due to the environment we live in. As mentioned above environmental and lifestyle factors also contribute to more rapid skin aging. Smoking, substance abuse, and even severe stress can excerbate skin aging.

Prevention is key

Overall, how your skin ages depends on many different factors: lifestyle, heredity (genetics), environmental influences, and what levels of prevention and treatment you utilize – and at what age. Living healthy, supplementing with necessary nutrients and eating well will help slow skin aging’s progress and improve any inflammation you may already experience.
